Not Happy With Your Complexion? Try This

If you’re not happy with your face, you’re not alone. Around 50 percent of people don’t like the person staring back at them in the mirror.

The good news, though, is that there’s a lot that you can do about it. In many cases, you don’t just have to accept it and say “that’s life.” What’s more, many of the strategies you can adopt are easy.

Here’s what to do:

Nail Your Skincare Routine

The first thing you’ll want to address is your skincare routine. This is how you look after your skin on a daily basis.

There are several skincare rules that you’ll want to follow:

  • Apply a good cleanser. Make sure that you remove all your makeup before you go to bed so that your skin can breathe

  • Avoid using soap to wash your face as it can cause your skin to dry out by removing the protective oils that it relies upon

  • Use moisturizing products that complement your skin. If you have super oily skin, don’t add fuel to the fire by adding yet more oils

  • Use acids on your skin, such as salicylic acid, to make it look smoother over the long-term

Get More Sleep

If you don’t get enough sleep, it’ll show in your face. You’ll look tired, and the people around you will be able to tell. Drooping eyelids don’t do much for your complexion.

If you can, get at least 8 hours of sleep per night. Maintain a strict daily routine and avoid breaking it on the weekend. Commit to going to bed at, say 11 pm and waking up at 7 am (or whatever pattern works for you). Don’t deviate from this rule.

Make sure that you avoid sleep interruptions. Turn your phone off if you have to. Avoid drinking too much water in the hours running up to sleep. Save most of your hydration for the morning and afternoon, not the evening, so you can avoid the need to go to the bathroom at night.

If you notice that you have droopy eyelids, try using ptosis eyedrops. You can get these on prescription from your doctor if your upper eyelid is crowding your vision or changing your appearance in a way that you find distressing.

Pay Attention To Your Teeth

Stains can build up on your teeth easily, even if you consume a healthy diet. Tannins and other compounds in food stick to teeth and slowly turn them yellow and brown. You don’t want this.

Try paying more attention to your teeth. Clean and scale them regularly to make them appear more pearly white. You can even go for whitening treatment if your teeth are naturally yellow.

Trim That Facial Hair

Lastly, you’ll want to trim any unwanted facial hair that you have. The odd wisp here and there on your sideburns is okay, but hair poking out of your moustache or your chin is likely to make you feel self-conscious.

The best way to get rid of this unwanted hair is to use laser hair removal. However, you can also wax regularly if necessary or use a special trimmer.
